A Workout For Your Resolution: CrossFit

On Monday, it was barre. Tuesday, cycling in-studio. On Wednesday, the crew talked CrossFit.

Take a look into CrossFit My Town in Medina, and the workout can appear a little daunting.

"CrossFit is unlike any workout I have ever done before," said Matt Parrish, who's been an avid CrossFit fan for decades.

Most days of the week, Parrish and his son, Thor, hit the gym at 5:30 a.m.

"I like the workout, because you can get it done in an hour," Matt Parrish said.

"My favorite are the light weights and heavy reps, it really gets your heart rate going," said Thor Parrish, who plays football and golf for Orono High School.

The father and son started working out together about two years ago. For Thor, it took some time to get used to the workouts, but once he mastered the routine, there's been no turning back.

"At the beginning, I was very competitive with my dad, now it's him trying to chase me," Thor said.

For a lot of us, this wouldn't exactly be the first way we would start our morning, but Matt said you can make it as hard or easy as you would like.

"The nice thing is you can scale it, so you make it as easy or as intense as you want it to be, but I like it intense," Matt said.

Jon Miller, the owner of CrossFit My Town, agrees. He said the goal of the workout is to make it different every day.

"We keep it exciting, it's not just about being strong, or being fast, we vary it up and hit all the basic," he said.

Miller, who has owned the gym alongside his wife, Michelle, for almost three years, recommends working your way toward high intensity training workouts.

"People have the impression that you come and you have to be this beast, and there are beasts here, but you don't to be a beast to try CrossFit," Matt said.
