1 Killed, 2 Hurt In Wis. Crash Involving 3 Semis

FOSTER, Wis. (AP) — Authorities say one person died and two others were hurt in a western Wisconsin interstate crash involving three semis early Wednesday morning.

The accident happened about 3 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 94 between Eau Claire and Osseo. The crash temporarily closed both westbound lanes of the interstate at Foster.

The Wisconsin State Patrol says a preliminary investigation shows a westbound semi had slowed down due to mechanical problems and was struck from behind by a second semi, killing the driver in the second rig. A third semi traveling in the same lane clipped the second semi and jackknifed.

The drivers of the first and third semis were taken to an Eau Claire hospital. The driver killed has been identified as 59-year-old Steven Allen Danzeisen of Minnesota. The driver of the first semi-truck was not seriously hurt. The driver of the third semi, a 48-year-old Wisconsin man, is suffering from life-threatening injuries.
