The Minneapolis Police Department says the incident happened around 10 p.m. at the Cub Foods parking lot on the 5900 block of Nicollet Avenue South.

The officer approached the suspect vehicle, which police say was full of suspected shoplifters, and the driver steered the vehicle straight towards the officer and struck him.

The officer fired one shot at the vehicle, but it was still able to flee the scene.

The officer suffered minor injuries and received medical attention, police say.
