WCCO Radio Wins Murrow's 'Overall Excellence' Award For 2nd Consecutive Year

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- For the second consecutive year, WCCO radio has won the Edward R. Murrow Award for "Overall Excellence" from the Radio Television Digital News Association. It's highest regional honor the station can receive.

Until last year, WCCO had never won the "Overall Excellence" award.

WCCO won a total of three awards, which tied for the most in our region of Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Dakotas.

In addition to Overall Excellence, WCCO won awards for:

• Sports Reporting: Good Sport by Dave Lee & Jimmy Erickson

• Use of Sound: A Trail of Two Cities by Edgar Linares

The RTDNA received more than 4,200 entries during the 2015 awards season, setting an all-time record for the 3rd year in a row.

All of the regional winners will automatically advance to the national Edward R. Murrow Awards competition, which will be judged in May.

National awards will be presented in October.

The Murrow Awards are considered "The Gold Standard" for radio and television news.
