Eastbound Highway 5 To Close For Overnight Construction

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Minnesota Department of Transportation says that eastbound Highway 5 between Fort Snelling and St. Paul will close overnight Thursday and Friday while crews remove an abandoned water main from the highway's bridge.

Officials say the closures will begin at 9 p.m. and last until 5 a.m. the following mornings.

MnDOT says drivers should expect to take a detour to eastbound Highway 55, which will then take them to eastbound Highway 110 and finally onto northbound Interstate 35E.

This week's construction is part of a two-year project to increase the lifespan of Highway 5's bridge and its concrete pavement.
