MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The Minnesota Law Enforcement Memorial Association will have a major presence at Sunday’s funeral for Officer Todd Besser.
Besser was a long-time member of the Elk River Police Department, and was off-duty when he and his son, Blake, were slain a week ago.
His other son, Chris, faces two counts of second-degree murder for their deaths.
Law Enforcement Memorial Association President Jeff Beahen says they save the highest honor for officers killed in the line of duty.
Beahen, who is also Rogers’ chief of police, says the association has no record of a homicide victim who was an off-duty Minnesota police officer.
Those records from the memorial association stretch back nearly 40 years.
