MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 75-year-old woman is facing assault charges after she attempted to stab her landlord earlier this month.
Janice Marie Weiler, of Coon Rapids has been charged with one count of assault in the second degree and one count of terroristic threats.
According to the criminal complaint, on June 3 Coon Rapids police responded to a call of an assault at an apartment complex located in the 3100 block of 111th Avenue NW.
Upon arrival, police spoke with the manager of the apartment complex who said Weiler had come after her with a knife.
The victim said Weiler had come into the office and asked to speak with her. She asked to the close the door and once it was closed accused the victim of stealing from her. She said this time she was going to stab her.
Police said Weiler then took out a 12″ – 13″ knife and went after the victim.
The victim was able to fight off Weiler by holding up a three-ring binder to block the stabs. She was not injured but said that she feared for her life.
According to police, officers spoke with Weiler who said that the apartment manager was taking money out of her account and that she “was just pissed off and felt like stabbing her.”
Further investigation revealed there had been several incidents with Weiler, including a threat to burn down the apartment complex.
In a previous incident Weiler had also threatened to shoot the apartment manager. Investigation of Weiler’s apartment revealed a gun that was registered as being stolen out of New York in 1974.
Weiler is currently awaiting a formal trial.
