Timberwolves Hosting Free Draft Party At Target Center

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Timberwolves are ready to have a big night in the NBA Draft on Thursday, and they want fans to be a part of it as much as possible.

The Timberwolves, for the first time in franchise history, will have the No. 1 overall pick in Thursday night's draft. Fans are invited to Target Center for a free Draft Party. With the Timberwolves having the top pick, thousands of fans are expected to be in attendance.

Fans can register for the free event by going to the Timberwolves Draft Party website. The Target Center doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and live draft coverage will start at 6 p.m. The NBA Draft will be televised live on the arena scoreboard. WCCO Radio will be broadcasting live starting at 6 p.m.

There will also be a silent auction, with proceeds benefitting the Timberwolves Fastbreak Foundation.

Timberwolves fans have several reasons to be excited about having the No. 1 overall pick. Last year's top selection, Andrew Wiggins, came to Minnesota in a trade for Kevin Love and went onto become the NBA's Rookie of the Year. Four of the last seven top selections have gone onto win that award, and 11 top overall selections have gone onto win the regular season MVP award.

The Timberwolves are expected to select Kentucky center Karl-Anthony Towns or Duke center Jahlil Okafor with the top pick. Minnesota also has the 31st and 36th picks.
