Twins Closer Glen Perkins Gets Surprise Gift After All-Star Selection
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnesota Twins closer Glen Perkins had quite a night Monday as the team earned a walk-off 4-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles at Target Field.
Perkins pitched a scoreless ninth inning before Brian Dozier's walk-off two run homer in the 10th won it for the Twins. Before the game, Perkins found out that he was selected as a relief pitcher for next week's All-Star Game in Cincinnati.
He had a big surprise waiting for him in the parking lot as he was getting ready to head home. His wife, Alisha Perkins, bought him a congratulatory Porsche. She pulled off the surprise with the help of Twins Baseball Communications Director Dustin Morse and Phil Hughes, who started Monday's game.
Last night I surprised @glenperkins with a gift worthy of a 3x all star! Big thanks 2 @Twins_morsecode & @PJHughes45 pic.twitter.com/kbXOYBcXZv

Perkins is the Twins' lone All-Star selection at this point, though the team is pushing to get Dozier in through a final online vote.
Perkins is the best closer in baseball right now. He's a perfect 27-for-27 in save opportunities and has a 1.27 earned run average with 34 strikeouts and just five walks in 35 1/3 innings pitched.
