MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A new survey says the average allowance amount is going up.
According to the survey by American Express, parents are paying their kids about $35 a week. That’s gone up $8 from last year.
The survey also found that fewer parents are giving their kid an allowance at all.
Parents said their child’s allowance is based on doing chores and getting good grades.
The survey also found parents think kids should start helping around the house around age 7. While the proper age to start getting an allowance is 8 years old.
