Heavy Rains Stall Morning Commute

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- At least a half-dozen crashes were reported across the Twin Cities metro area Tuesday morning after heavy rains moved through the area just as traffic was firing up.

According to WCCO's Kim Johnson, Interstate 394 was down to one lane at Penn Avenue due to flash flooding. Much of the metro area maps were showing red for heavy traffic jams.

Also, northbound Highway 100 was down to one lane at Highway 62 due to a crash.

WCCO meteorologist Matt Brickman said that the heavy band of rain had made its way through Minneapolis and St. Paul by 7:30 a.m., and was just about to cross over into Wisconsin. The raindrops were expected to continue falling for at least another hour.

After the rain moves out, Brickman says Tuesday is going to be another muggy day. The afternoon could bring the threat for more isolated storms.
