Man, 76, Drowns After Pontoon Overturns

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - A 76-year-old Clara City, Minnesota, man drowned Friday after his pontoon boat flipped over on a small lake in Kandiyohi County.

Philip Leo Thissen was boating with friends Friday morning when the pontoon tipped over, trapping him underwater for about 20 minutes.

By the time divers removed him from below the 14-foot boat, he was dead. The boat was on Golden Pond, about half a mile east of Sunburg.

His two septuagenarian boating partners were uninjured.
