Princeton Man, 22, Killed After Dirt Bike Hits Truck In Isanti County

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 22-year-old Princeton man died Sunday after his dirt bike collided with a pick-up truck north of the Twin Cities metro, according to the Isanti County Sheriff's Office.

The dirt bike rider, Dillion Phillip Anderson, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities responded to the crash at about 4 p.m. at the intersection of County State Highway 5 and Feldspar St. NW in Spencer Brook Township, which is located in rural Isanti County. When officers arrived, a 1989 Yamaha street legal dirt bike and a 2008 Ford super duty pick-up had been involved in a crash.

Authorities said the motorcycle, driven by the 22-year-old man, head heading northbound on Feldspar St. NW and didn't stop for a stop sign and didn't yield to eastbound traffic. The pick-up, driven by a 60-year-old man from rural Isanti, was heading eastbound and pulling a fifth-wheel camp-trailer combo. The truck had through traffic eastbound and westbound and didn't have to stop.

The motorcyclist collided with the pick box on the truck, was ejected from the motorcycle and ended up on the shoulder of the road. The driver of the truck saw the motorcycle coming and tried to avoid the crash, but couldn't.

Authorities said it does not appear drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, and charges are unlikely in the case. Anderson was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Authorities said it's the second fatal crash involving a motorcycle in a week in Isanti County.

The Isanti County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by Isanti Fire District, Isanti County Safety and Rescue, the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office and the Minnesota State Patrol reconstruction team.
