Pre-Teen Girl Drowned In New Brighton Creek

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A pre-teen girl drowned Thursday after about 20 minutes underwater in a New Brighton creek.

A little after 3 p.m., the girl jumped into Rice Creek, near the Mississippi St. pedestrian bridge, just north of Long Lake Regional Park.

She may have surfaced one time before disappearing from her friends' view.

A nearby resident called 911 and the girl was removed from the water after being submerged for about 20 minutes. She was taken to Unity Hospital.

The New Brighton Police confirmed the girl's death on Friday.
