“We’ve seen over the last few years a real increase to hire top technical employees,” University of St. Thomas Engineering Professor John Abraham said.
With big name headquarters like 3M and General Mills, as well as innovative medical device companies like Medtronic and St. Jude Medical, there’s a high need for tech-savvy employees. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics found hiring in the technology field increased 8.26 percent over the last six months in Minnesota.

California and New York still have the highest number of technology jobs, but the hiring rate is slower. Unemployment in the technology field is on the decline all over the country.
“If people are thinking of a career choice in a challenging but rewarding area, technology and engineering that’s where it’s at,” Abraham said.
