U Of M Receives Active Minds Health Campus Award

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The University of Minnesota announced Tuesday the Twin Cities campus received the 2015 Active Minds Health Campus Award.

The award recognizes the U of M as one of the healthiest campuses in the county. It is given to universities across the country that are prioritizing and promoting student health and well-being.

According to the University of Minnesota, the Twin Cities campus was one of five higher education institutions to receive the award.

"We are honored to be recognized as one of the healthiest campuses in the nation," Karen Hanson, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, University of Minnesota said in a recent press release. "I am particularly proud that the University of Minnesota was chosen for its unique public health approach, an approach that is truly holistic and is fully attentive to both physical and mental health."

Those considered for the award were assessed across eight criteria, ranging from equal health opportunities for all students and data driven improvements in health offerings.

In addition to the recognition, the university's best practices will be shared by Active Minds with a number of universities across the country.

Active Minds is a nonprofit that focuses on mental health programs at universities.
