Charges: 2 Men Burglarize Burnsville Home While Owner Pretends To Sleep

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Two Minneapolis men have been charged with burglary after they attempted to steal prescription drugs from a man's bedside as he slept.

Zeontae Ezekiel Todd, 18, and Dominique Da'Vonte Hackett, 20, face one count each of burglary in the first degree.

According to the criminal complaint, officers responded to a call from a 75-year-old man stating there was a large man in his Burnsville home.

Upon arrival, officers noticed a black Escalade parked near the home with the engine running and pry marks around the patio door.

Police located the caller and confirmed the suspects were no longer in the home.

The caller told police he had woken up shortly after 7:30 a.m. and saw a tall man walking past his bedroom. He called 911 and pretended to go back to sleep.

The suspect then entered the bedroom, leaned over the victim as he pretended to sleep and took prescription pill bottles that were on the victim's headboard.

Further investigation found other items missing from the victim's home, including his Apple MacBook, a 65-inch flat screen and his wallet.

According to the criminal complaint, as the offers exited the victim's house they saw Hackett and Todd walking nearby.

During questioning, officers learned the Escalade belonged to Todd's father. They also found a gift card that the victim identified as being in his wallet.

After obtaining a warrant, a search of the car unveiled the victim's flat screen TV and other missing things, in addition to other stolen items.

Hackett and Todd were placed under arrest.
