Seward Community Co-Op Opens Second Location In Underserved Neighborhood
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A local co-op is expanding to bring fresh food to an area that's without a neighborhood grocery store.
The Seward Community Co-Op is opening its second location Tuesday night in the Bryant-Central neighborhood in south Minneapolis. The store will stock fresh produce, organic foods and many locally grown and produced items.
"As we look over the years, getting access to healthy foods for our community has not always been the easiest thing possible," Seward Co-Op Manager Ray Williams said. "To be able to provide that now for a historically African-American community with a Latino population is going to be amazing."
The store added 100 new jobs to the neighborhood, too. The Co-Op opened its doors at around 5 p.m. Tuesday evening.
A membership is flat fee of $75, but anyone can shop there. The first location is along East Franklin Avenue.
