Actor, Hockey Player & Minnesota Native Joe Cure Killed In Montana Rollover Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Actor and hockey player Joe Cure of Bloomington, best known for his portrayal of Mike Ramsey in the 2004 film Miracle, was killed in a rollover crash in Montana, state police say.

According to an official with the Montana Highway Patrol, the crash only involved one car, carrying Cure and his girlfriend, both of whom were wearing seatbelts. Investigators say they were rounding a gentle curve on a snow-packed, icy road when the vehicle slid off and violently rolled multiple times.

Police pronounced Cure dead at the scene, but an air ambulance took his girlfriend to Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.

Cure grew up in Bloomington, Minnesota before landing his big role in the movie about the infamous hockey showdown between Russia and the United States in the 1980 Winter Olympics. He had no acting experience before landing the role, but was an accomplished hockey player in high school and beyond.
