Twins' Sano, Molitor Finalists For American League Honors

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Twins announced Tuesday that Miguel Sano and Paul Molitor are each up for American League awards.

Sano is one of three finalists for the American League Rookie of the Year award. He playedin 80 games and hit .269 with 18 homers, 17 doubles and had 52 RBI. Sano also had a .916 on base plus slugging percentage and proved to be a powerful force in the middle of the Twins lineup, largely as a designated hitter.

The other finalists are Francisco Lindor of the Cleveland Indians and Carlos Correa of the Houston Astros.

Molitor is one of three finalists for the American League Manager of the Year award. He helped lead the Twins to an 83-79 record in his first season with the Twins. The organization had suffered through four straight seasons of at least 90 losses before he was named manager.

The other finalists include Jeff Banister of the Texas Rangers and A.J. Hinch of the Houston Astros.
