MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- From the results of a national transit survey to a career fair for military members, here are the four stories to know for Thursday, Nov. 12.
National Transit Survey
Transit riders like convenience but prefer reliability.
A national survey by USA Today found people ride mass transit for the convenience because they don't like driving and want to reduce emissions.
But four out of five passengers say they would take advantage of mass transit more if they were more reliable, cleaner and less crowded.
Currently House and Senate lawmakers are negotiating a six-year highway and transit bill.
Military Career Fair
United Health Group is having a career fair Thursday with the goal of hiring veterans and their spouses for jobs in Minnesota.
There will be stations set up for seminars on networking, resume writing and interviewing skills.
It's free to attend.
The career fair is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Optum Building in Eden Prairie.
Walmart & Black Friday
Walmart is getting rid of doorbusters.
The retailer will be open at 6 p.m. Thanksgiving but won't roll out hourly deals on different items like in years past.
Instead, nearly all deals both online and in stores will be provided at once.
Online deals begin at midnight on Thanksgiving while in store deals begin when doors open.
The 24-hour event encourages people to donate. Last year was a record-breaking year with more than $18 million donated.
And the way this works is the groups that get the most donations in different categories, get even more money. Prizes can go up to $10,000 for first place finishers.
