1 Dead, 1 Hurt In North Minneapolis Fire

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities say a man is dead and a woman has been hospitalized after a house fire in north Minneapolis Thursday night.

Fire crews responded to the 4000 block of Russell Ave. N. at about 6:30 p.m. on a report of a fire. When firefighters arrived, they were able to extinguish the fire quickly. During a search of the home, crews found two victims inside.

Crews located a 82-year-old man, who was wheelchair bound, in the front bedroom. He was brought outside where crews performed CPR on him. They could not resuscitate and he was pronounced dead on the scene.

A 62-year-old woman was also found in the home. She was taken to a local hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire damaged the entire first floor and basement of the one-story home.

Authorities said the fire appeared to have started in the living room, but an exact cause has not been determined.

Police have not released the identities of the victims, or the condition of the woman taken to the hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
