1 Injured After Snow Plow Collides With Train In Stearns County

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A snow plow collided with a train in the Stearns County town of Brooten Wednesday morning, leaving one man hospitalized.

According to a report from the Stearns County Sheriff's office, a man was driving a 1996 Ford truck equipped with a front snow blade and a side snow wing on 493rd Avenue at around 8:51 a.m. when he rolled into a railroad crossing and was hit by an oncoming locomotive.

The driver wasn't wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle in the collision. He was transported to the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood and suffered from non-life-threatening injuries.

The locomotive and second car of the train was damaged in the crash, but is still operational. The intersection was shut down for several hours Wednesday morning as authorities investigated the crash.

The plow was part of a fleet operated by Carlson Blading, who was contracted by the town of Brooten and North Fork Township for their snow removal.
