Sheriff: NE Minn. Man, 56, Arrested For Burning Down His Own Cabin

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Carlton County Sheriff's Office says a 56-year-old man is in jail after burning down his own cabin last week.

On Jan. 21 at 7:20 p.m., the sheriff's office received a report from a passerby of a structure fire on the 1500 block of County Road 6 in Blackhoof Township.

When deputies arrived, they found the cabin fully engulfed in flames.

Deputies soon learned who the property owner was and made contact with the husband and wife who lived at the property.

During the course of the investigation, the sheriff's office says a 56-year-old male resident admitted to starting the fire inside the house intentionally.

There were no other people or animals inside the cabin at the time of the fire.

The 56-year-old resident was arrested for first-degree arson and is being held at the Carlton County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing and formal charges are expected.
