Latest CDC Figures Show Autism Rates Holding Steady
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- April is National Autism Awareness Month, and new figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show the rate of autism reports steady from where they were last year.
According to the figures, one in every 68 school-aged children have been identified as being on the autism spectrum.
"It is too soon to know whether autism prevalence in the United States might be starting to stabilize," Mary Arneson said. "More monitoring is needed."
Arneson is with Fraser, a nonprofit that provides education and other services to children and families dealing with special needs, among them autism.
While the numbers showed no change from 2014, the CDC said that prevalence was reported at 1 in 150 children in 2007.
To help raise awareness and to partner with families, Creative Kidstuff toy store has teamed up with St. David's Center for Child & Family Development to build a list of 2016 new and top toys for children on the autism spectrum.
