Meet The Junior Rolling Timberwolves

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Junior Rolling Timberwolves are a high school basketball team that happens to play in wheelchairs.

The stories of how they got there are varied, but where they are unified is in their love of basketball.

"The dedication of our parents and the players. They're working all the time, in between practices, and it's for the love of the game," said Cara Gulbronson, director of the Junior Rolling Timberwolves. "Our coaches between the two, our varsity coaches have over 50 years of experience coaching the sport."

The concept of team competition, facilitated by the Sister Kinney Courage Center, is a place to get away for a while.

"It's just been great. I've been able to let loose, I've been able to, you know, let myself be free. It can be an escape from everything else," player Jonathan Laing said. "Just to be on a varsity-level team with the big dogs, it's pretty cool, so it means a lot."

So they gather, and understand the goal to win a national championship; to enjoy a life that includes being a part of something special.

"It's definitely given me something to look forward to every week," player Collin Evans Jr. said.

But make no mistake; when you have won six national titles, you want at least one more.

"I think we have a pretty good shot at it," Evans Jr. said. "We just have to keep our heads straight and play the way I know we can."
