As Cold Weather Rule Ends, CenterPoint Issues Reminder On Bills

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- CenterPoint Energy is reminding customers to address past due natural gas bills as Minnesota's cold weather rule ends later this week.

The state's cold weather rule, which is in effect from Oct. 15 to April 15, helps protect residents who are having trouble paying their gas bills from having their heat disconnected during the winter months.

Brad Tutuanjian, the vice president of CenterPoint's gas operations, says those who are having trouble paying their bills are encouraged to contact the company, which can connect them with resources.

"We are in touch with many of the resources in our communities and can help customers connect with these agencies," he said in a statement. "We can also help enroll customers in the various bill payment programs that we offer."

Tutunjian also added that this year's mild winter and low natural gas prices have helped many stay on top of their heating bills.

To contact CenterPoint Energy in order to make payments, call 1-612-372-4680. To see if you qualify for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which helps customers pay monthly bills and take care of past due balances, call 612-372-4727.
