Jared Allen To Officially Retire As A Viking

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Jared Allen, the all-pro defensive end who spent six seasons playing for Minnesota, will retire as a Viking.

The team announced Thursday that Allen signed a one-day contract in order to hang up his cleats as an official member of the Vikings.

"Jared was not only a phenomenal player on the field, but he was also a favorite among the fans and within the organization," said Vikings owner Zygi Wilf, in a statement. "He will always be a member of the Minnesota Vikings family."

The California native ranks third in the franchise for all-time sacks. He also never missed a single game for the Vikings.

Allen played 12 seasons in the NFL. He started in Kansas City before being traded to the Vikings. From 2008 to 2013, he wore the purple and gold before going to the Panthers.

In February, he announced that he'd be retiring with a video of him "riding off into the sunset."
