Klobuchar, Vermont Senator Discuss Protecting Women From Violence

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Violence against women was the topic of a roundtable discussion Monday in Minneapolis.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar, along with Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy, toured the Harriet Tubman Center.

They sat down with local advocates and community leaders to discuss what's needed going forward.

Some of the main issues they touched on, Klobuchar said, had to do with child protection, prevention and concerns particular to Minnesota's Native American community.

"Senator Klobuchar has fought for this as much as anybody in the U.S. Senate," Leahy said. "We'll get the laws written, but then we've got to get the money."

Leahy and Klobuchar are working on re-authorization of the Violence Against Women Act in the next two years.
