Vikings Exercise 5th Year Options On Floyd, Rhodes

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/AP) -- The Minnesota Vikings announced Monday that they've exercised fifth-year contract options on defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd and cornerback Xavier Rhodes.

With the moves, both players are under contract and team control through the 2017 season.

Floyd was taken with the No. 23 pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, while Rhodes was taken with the No. 25 pick. Floyd finished last season with 34 tackles, including 19 solo tackles and 2.5 sacks. Rhodes had 58 tackles last season, including 55 solo tackles. He also had one interception.

The Vikings declined to pick-up a fifth-year option on receiver Cordarrelle Patterson, who enters his most important season yet in the NFL. He was an All-Pro kick returner as a rookie and has continued to be a threat in that spot in his first three seasons in the league. But his development as a receiver has been much slower to come.

Patterson only caught two passes last season and was used as a decoy or blocker in the few offensive snaps he did get. He would have been due $7.9 million in 2017 and instead will be eligible for free agency next spring.
