Blood Drive Held In Honor Of Eagan Police Sergeant

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The American Red Cross held a special blood drive on Saturday for an Eagan police sergeant who nearly lost her life while giving birth.

Sgt. Danielle Anselment went in for a scheduled cesarean section to give birth to her fifth child. Her blood pressure dropped significantly and she began hemorrhaging uncontrollably. She was given more than 40 units of blood and platelets through the experience.

"As a wife, mother and police officer, I am responsible for others every day," said Anselment in a press release. "I never thought I'd be the one in need of a lifesaving blood transfusion."

The drive was held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Hope Lutheran Church.

"I'm extremely thankful for the gift that blood donors gave me," Anselment said. "Without it, I might not have been here to take care of my family, and my husband Shaun may have been a single parent with five young children."
