MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — From an outside reggae party Thursday night to a major independent hip hop festival at the state fairgrounds on Sunday, here are the four shows and events to see this weekend!
With temperatures in the mid-80s expected Thursday afternoon/evening, it’s gonna feel tropical. So, why not listen to some amazing reggae at what’s being called the “Caribbean getaway in the heart of St. Paul”?
The University Club of St. Paul’s private pool deck is opening to the public for one night. The event features The Meditations (reggae legends who toured and recorded with Bob Marley) and local band Irie Sol, which will feature Junior Williams all the way from Kingston, Jamaica.
Besides music, there’ll be Jamaican-themed cocktails, an a la carte dinner menu available and a VIP ticket option for special access to poolside/tables/more.
It couldn’t be a better night for this!
Minneapolis’ pop-rock-with-a-vintage-spacey-vibe group, Astronomique, will be celebrating the release of its new self-entitled EP this Friday at the 311.
They’ll be joined by SloSlyLove and a collaboration between Two Castles and Sniffle Party!
Music starts at 10 p.m. and, oh, it’s FREE.
SATURDAY/SUNDAY: Memory Lanes Block Party – Minneapolis
The Memory Lanes Block Party is back for a two-day run and, man, does it feature a lot of music.
To name just a few: Tiny Deaths, Beasthead, Dead Disco, DJ Shannon Blowtorch, Mixed Blood Majority, Bones & Beeker, Eric Mayson, and Little Fevers.
Check out the link above for the full set!
It’s an all-ages event with $5 admission – but free after 10 p.m. The bowling lanes and volleyball courts will also be open, in case you wanna do that, too.
Soundset 2016 has moved from Shakopee to St. Paul for an even bigger hip hop experience! This year, the ninth-annual Soundset will be located at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds on the Midway at 1265 Snelling Avenue North.
Both major and local artists are on the massive bill for the Sunday event, which features over 10 hours of hip hop music.
Artists include Atmosphere, A$AP Rocky, The Roots, Doomtree & much, much more. Click on the link above for the full lineup.
There are still a small amount of general admission tickets available, so get ’em quick!
