Temporary Greenway Coming To North Mpls.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The city of Minneapolis will put in a temporary greenway in a north Minneapolis neighborhood to test how a permanent greenway would work in the area.

The city is considering converting a street in the Jordan and Folwell neighborhoods into a greenway. To test the idea, the city is putting in a temporary greenway in on the 3000-3500 blocks of Irving Avenue North.

Installation will begin June 1 and be completed by June 10. Currently, the city plans to have the temporary greenway in place for a year.

The greenway will have walking and biking paths, gathering areas and painted pavement art.

Parking capacity will be reduced in the area while the greenway is in place. There will be no parking on the 3500 block, except for vehicles with disability parking permits.

There are several opportunities for residents to get involved in the greenway's installation. On June 7, residents can help assemble street furniture. On June 11, the city will host a "Paint the Pavement" event. The grand opening is scheduled for Saturday, June 25.

Residents can also give feedback about the greenway by calling 311, emailing healthyliving@minneapolismn.gov, completing an online survey, filling out comment cards provided at kiosks on the greenway or using a postcard provided at the grand opening or by canvassers.

More information about the project can be found here.
