MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – One man is dead after a single-car crash in Dayton late Monday night.

According to the Dayton Police Department, officers responded to a call just after 10 pm. of a single-car crash near 125th Avenue N. and East French Lake Road.

Upon arrival, officers found a 45-year-old man on the scene, determined to be the lone occupant of the car. He was declared dead on the scene.

Further investigation showed the car was traveling west toward an area where the road makes a sharp left-hand turn onto East French Lake Road.

Police said it appears the vehicle then went off the road and collided with two mailboxes, landscape blocks and a tree.

A local resident heard the crash and extinguished a small fire on the vehicle before officers arrived.

The name of the man killed has not been released. The crash remains under investigation.
