As Heat Moves In, Several Twin Cities Pools Open For Season

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) –A number of pools in the Twin Cities are opening this weekend, which is perfect timing with the hot weather moving in.

Wading pools in Minneapolis have been open since Memorial Day weekend, and are sure to be a popular option Friday.

St. Louis Park's outdoor water park, Apple Valley, Bloomington, Edina and many others already opened this week. The Grove Cove Aquatic Center in Maple Grove opens Friday.

In Minneapolis, lifeguards are on duty beginning Saturday at the city's 12 authorized beaches.

These are located at Calhoun, Cedar, Harriet, Hiawatha, Nokomis, and Theodore Wirth lakes. Beaches are open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., with lifeguards at the busiest beaches during peak use.

Minneapolis is still hiring lifeguards for the 2016 season.

The water parks in Minneapolis, North Commons and Jim Lupient open Saturday.

In St. Paul, Como Park Regional Pool and Highland Park Aquatic Center open for the season Saturday.

Open swim begins at 11 a.m. at both pools, and they're open until 7 p.m. Como Pool also features a zip-line and lazy river.

Phalen Beach also kicks off its season on Saturday and will be open 1-7 p.m. daily for the summer.

In Eagan, Cascade Bay opens Friday. This is the park's 17th season.

The gates open at 11 a.m.
