Como Zoo Announces Birth Of Its New Baby Zebra

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Como Zoo has a new zebra foal!

On Tuesday, the zoo announced that Minnie, their Grant's Zebra, gave birth to the foal sometime during the overnight hours of Saturday and Sunday.

Zookeepers arrived Sunday morning, discovering the foal up, walking strong and closely shadowing its mother. Its gender has yet to be determined.

"Minnie was getting very big; we knew it was a matter of days before her baby would make its appearance," Allison Jungheim, Senior Zookeeper at Como Zoo, said. "There were no complications and mother and baby appear to be doing great."

The zebra foal will be named as part of a silent auction at this year's Como Friends' Travelers' Sunset Affair, the annual summer benefit for Como Park and Conservatory on July 21.

The mother and baby can bee seen by the public at the outdoor Zebra and Kudu exhibit from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
