Officers In Rogers Deliver Baby In Living Room

ROGERS, Minn. (WCCO) -- Rogers Police Department officers helped bring a baby boy into the world that could not wait until his mother got to the hospital.

It happened around 2 a.m. Friday in Rogers.

A father called 911 but the ambulance was still about 15 minutes away.

The mother and father of the little boy named Theo were a little shy and did not want their names reported but they expressed great gratitude for the police officers who helped them.Baby Delivered In Rogers

The officers who responded to the call were Sgt. Stephen Sarazin and Officer Blake Neumann.

They rushed from nearby to get to the home and arrived within a couple of minutes of the emergency call.

"When we got there, her water broke and there were two minutes between the contractions so she was ready," Sarazin said.

Without time to wait for an ambulance, the officers used small medical kits to help keep the area as sanitary and professional as possible.

"I radioed once to dispatch and said, 'Look, the head's starting to come out, tell the ambulance to expedite.' They're coming as fast as they can anyway," Sarazin said.

The officers said they train once per year for a moment like this, but Sarazin never had to be the one to deliver a baby before Friday.

"I looked at the dad he looked at me and he said, 'Am I going to catch or are you?'" Sarazin said.

A few pushes later and baby Theo was born.Baby Delivered In Rogers

Sarazin was the first person Theo would ever meet.

"The baby just kept crying which was good," Sarazin said.

The mother soon realized Neumann had once pulled over the couple when they were on their way to have their first child.

They were speeding to the hospital.

Neumann did not give them a ticket.

"Help bring a kid into the world, it's really cool. And I know Blake and I, we both said we love that kid and we will always care about him and we will always have a bond with him," Sarazin said.
