Man Charged In Fatal Hubbard County Crash

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A man has been charged in connection with a fatal car crash in which another man was pinned under an SUV.

The Hubbard County Sheriff's Office said 22-year-old Dakota Walsh of Park Rapids, Minnesota, was arraigned Monday on felony criminal vehicular homicide charges and leaving the scene of an accident.

The sheriff's office said that Walsh and 19-year-old Avery Mikel left a party in separate vehicles on July 23. Mikel attempted to pass Walsh's vehicle on 190th Street, one mile northwest of Park Rapids, and Walsh blocked him. Walsh admitted he was driving recklessly.

Mikel then lost control of his Chevrolet Tahoe, the truck overturned and he was pinned underneath, the sheriff's office said.

According to the sheriff's office, Walsh said he turned to check on Mikel, but "freaked out" and left the scene without calling police. Mikel's body was found hours later.

Bail has been set at $100,000.
