Investigators Seek Witnesses Following Fatal Belle Plaine Hit-And-Run

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The State Patrol is asking for the public's help following a hit-and-run early Sunday morning in the southwest metro at that killed a pedestrian.

The hit-and-run happened around 5:15 a.m. in Belle Plaine near the intersection of Highway 169 and Belle Plaine Trail.

Twenty-nine-year-old Derek Fath, of Belle Plaine, was killed.

The State Patrol says that Fath was struck by an unknown car heading north on the interstate. Fath's girlfriend, Ashley Hiemstra, says he was heading home from a friend's home when he was hit. She said she and Fath have a son who is about to turn 2 years old.

Investigators are asking for anyone who witnessed the hit-and-run to call 651-582-1502.
