This week’s shows to see include a bunch of exciting album releases and a huge folk festival right across the St. Croix River. Check them out below!
Last summer, Minneapolis-based Charanga Tropical became the first North American ensemble to ever be invited to the International Danzón Festival in Havana, Cuba.
There, in addition to playing the festival and venues around Havana, the group negotiated a five-day recording session with EGREM, Cuba’s national record label. Pretty sweet, right?
Now, the charanga group is set to celebrate the release of that CD, “In Cuba”, at the Dakota Jazz Club Friday night!
There’s a $15 cover and all ages are welcome. Doors open at 7 p.m.
Filthy Animals, a St. Paul-based indie/funk/psych group, is releasing its next EP effort, “Tops Is Tops” at their hometown’s Turf Club.
Joining them on the bill are The Happy Children and the Darners.
Tickets are $5 in advance, $8 at door for the 21-plus event.
SATURDAY: Sophia Eris Album Release @ Icehouse
Local hip hop DJ/MC, Lizzo collaborator and member of GRRRL PRTY (which played its last show earlier this summer) — Sophia Eris — has a fresh self-titled debut album out!
Now, she’s looking to celebrate it all at the Icehouse this weekend. Joining her on the bill are Saint Laron, Gym Kang, Ness Nite and Alibaster Jones.
It’s a 21-plus 10:30 p.m. show. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door.
This Saturday is the second annual Prairie Burn Music Festival in Hudson, Wisconsin, and it will be featuring something for all ages and interests.
Held at the YMCA Camp St. Croix, the event will include music on three stages from over 15 bands: Charlie Parr, Okee Dokee Brothers and The Ericksons to name a few.
There’s also camping and all the great activities associated with it!
