Superintendent: Maple Grove High School Vandal ID'd
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- School administrators have identified and punished the person behind racist graffiti in a Twin Cities high school bathroom, according to the school's superintendent.
A vandal painted President-elect Donald Trump's name on a bathroom stall at Maple Grove Senior High School Nov. 9, along with "whites only" and "white America."
The vandal also used an expletive with the N-word and other racist terms on the bathroom stall.
Monday, Superintendent Kate Maguire sent a message to families of Osseo Area Schools, saying the investigation into the incident was "one of the most comprehensive and exhaustive investigations Maple Grove Senior High staff has ever conducted."
Maguire said administrators have identified the individual responsible for the graffiti and taken appropriate disciplinary action.
Maguire did not name the vandal or say exactly what the punishment was, citing student privacy laws.
"What I can tell you is that board policy allows for a range of consequences that enable administrators to apply discipline according to the seriousness of any situation," Maguire said, "and we found this to be an extremely serious incident."
The superintendent's message also said the school is planning several opportunities over the next few months for students, families and community members to tell staff how the incident impacted them and what the school's next steps should be.
The Maple Grove Police Department is still investigating the incident.
