Sheriff: Man Killed After Rear-End Crash With Skid Steer In Western Wis.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 55-year-old man from River Falls, Wis., was killed Monday afternoon after a collision with a skid steer in western Wisconsin, according to the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities responded to the crash at about 4:46 p.m. on the 300 block of County Highway JJ in Kinnickinnic Township. The man had been driving a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire and was heading northbound on County Highway JJ when he rear-ended a skid steer.

The man was extricated from the vehicle and taken to Regions Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. He was identified by authorities as Duane Cernohous. Authorities say evidence at the scene suggests he wasn't wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The driver of the skid steer, who was treated for injuries at the scene and released, was wearing a lap belt.

Authorities say it's the sixth fatal accident this year in St. Croix County. What led up to the crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's office with assistance from the Wisconsin State Patrol.
