Charges: Carver Man Fired Gun To Scare Teens On His Roof

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Carver man is facing charges for allegedly firing shots thinking a burglary was taking place while teenagers were on his roof last week, authorities say.

The Carver County Sheriff's Office responded at about 12:30 a.m. on Dec. 14 to a shots fired call in a residential neighborhood on Forest Avenue in Carver. When officers arrived, they learned 34-year-old Kyle Arthur Jensen fired three shots from a pistol outside at about 11:30 p.m. when he saw strangers climbing onto the roof of his shed.

Witnesses in the area said a group of 15 to 16-year-old boys had been sledding in the area when one of them threw the hat of another onto the roof of the shed. Authorities say a 16-year-old boy climbed a fence and onto the roof to get to the hat when he heard gunshots.

Jensen told authorities he was home with his wife and two young children when he became aware that strangers were climbing on his roof. He said he was concerned that his home was being burglarized, so he grabbed his 9-millimeter handgun and went outside, called out to the strangers and fired shots into the ground.

Nobody was hurt in the incident, and Jensen was arrested. He was charged with disorderly conduct and unlawful discharge of a firearm in city limits without justification.

The incident remains under investigation.
