Father Pleads Guilty To Manslaughter In Son's Death In Hot Car

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- A father could spend a year in jail for the death of his 4-year-old son who was left in in an SUV while he worked for nearly 6 hours at a St. Paul event.

Twenty-six-year-old Kristopher Taylor pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter this week in an agreement with prosecutors in Ramsey County District Court. Prosecutors agreed that Taylor would serve up to a year in jail or the county workhouse and be on probation for 10 years.

Taylor left his son, Riley, in the SUV last May when temperatures were in the 60s and 70s while he worked at the Minnesota Monthly 8th Annual Grillfest at CHS Field from 11:30 a.m. to about 5:15 p.m. He returned to find his son unresponsive.

The Star Tribune reports the Medical Examiner's Office determined the child died of hyperthermia.
