MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The man who admitted to starting a fire that destroyed a Duluth synagogue has been sentenced.
According to CBS 3 Duluth, 36-year-old Matthew Amiot was sentenced Friday to 90 days in jail and 192 hours of community service. He received credit for 36 days already served in jail.
The fire destroyed the 117-year-old Adas Israel Synagogue. Amiot told prosecutors he started some clothes on fire outside the synagogue to keep warm.
In 90 days, a review hearing will be held to see if Amiot needs to go to drug or mental health court.
