MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The number of cases of coronavirus worldwide has now topped 5.5 million, and there have now been more than 346,000 deaths. Nations are locking down to mitigate the spread of the virus. And while figures are beginning to fall in some parts of the world, others are have not come within their peak.

The United States has the most cases of any nation in the world now with about 1.6 million cases -- about 362,000 of them in hard-hit New York. Twelve countries in all -- including Spain, Italy, Germany, France, and the U.K. -- are also showing case numbers above 100,000.

The United States currently has about 98,000 deaths. There have been more than 30,000 deaths in the U.K. and Italy, and more than 25,000 deaths in Spain and France.

Johns Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering, based in Baltimore, is using real-time data to track the spread of coronavirus.

Hopkins' interactive tracker shows the spread of coronavirus or COVID-19 as new cases are confirmed and more people die.

Viewers can search by country or by state/province. They can also search by daily cases and see the numbers increased as more cases are confirmed.
