Caught On Tape: Man Fires Gun During Maplewood Robbery

By Caroline Lowe, WCCO-TV

MAPLEWOOD, Minn. (WCCO) — Maplewood Police are looking for an armed robber who fired off a round from a sawed-off shotgun at a city liquor store, just missing a clerk. The entire incident was captured on security cameras.

Police hope someone recognizes the man in the video and calls them before he seriously hurts or kills someone.

The video shows the armed robber as he fires a shot into a display case at the White Bear Liquor Store. A clerk was struck with pellets but amazingly was not hurt because the pellets hit material in his sweatshirt instead of his body.

Police say the shooting was totally unprovoked since the clerk was cooperating during the stick up that happened just before 10 p.m. last Thursday.

“We don’t know what his motivation was, if it was literally just to intimidate and show that he was serious, or what, but he obviously could have hurt or killed somebody,” said Maplewood Police Deputy Chief Dave Kvam.

Police describe the man as Hispanic, 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-11, wearing a black mask, black hooded coat or sweatshirt, red gloves and a white bandana.

Police are also seeking a 2001 maroon Jeep Cherokee, which is believed to be involved in the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Maplewood Police Department at 651-249-2600 or the Ramsey County Emergency Communications Center at 651-767-0640 outside office hours.

It is now past the year 2010 A.D. Is there some particular reason we’re still having to deal with this? Is there some particular reason we’re still suffering the prison yard culture to live among us? What year did we have in mind for not doing this anymore? 5000 A.D.? Are we so indifferent and politically correct that as long as we live 3 blocks away on a nice street, we’re comfortable putting some spin and rationalization on it so we don’t have to be bothered by it? Did everyone die and come back to life as zombies? Just wondering.

I’m sure he had a troubled youth, maybe a fundraiser or a bake sale.

Last Thursday!! Why does it always take so long to get these videos out?

I sure wish people would behave, its the white thing to do, right?

This kinda sounds like the same thing that happened at the Holiday Store in Wyoming. In that instance, the guy shot his gun during the robbery for apparently no reason as well because the employee at the counter was complying with the demands. Could it be the same guy?

    Just another D-Bag

I wish i was a white man, white people are much more intelligent and have a higher education with good jobs so they dont have to do robbery’s.

    I hate being black.

      >white people are much more intelligent and have a higher education with good jobs so they dont have to do robbery’s.
I’m white, highly intelligent, well-educated and I still couldn’t find decent work.

      Poor baby.
      You do have options “tone”
Plus – when does not having an education(which is state and federal funded)
become the justifiable reason for acting like a killer?
Oh, I know – Maybe we have to make it “easier” to learn?
Like maybe opening up your head and pouring the education in?

Reasoning like yours is why these crimes keep happening.
