Goin' To The Lake: Mike & Natalie Visit Battle Lake (Day 1)
BATTLE LAKE (WCCO) -- After an All-Star week, WCCO is making it to the lake. This summer, until the start of the Great Minnesota Get-Together, we're highlighting communities in Minnesota and western Wisconsin.
This week, Natalie and Mike loaded up their luggage into the Mobile Weather Watcher and took off Wednesday, heading three hours northwest to Battle Lake.

Otter County has high water like the rest of the state, so wake restrictions make some water sports a little tricky right now. But nothing gets in the way of fishing.

Just up the road from Battle Lake sits the Prospect House, built in 1882 by Civil War Veteran, "Cap" Colehour. Mike and Natalie check it out.

Mike and Natalie are on the west shore of West Battle Lake, a popular stop on the Otter Trail Scenic Byway.
The Trail takes you on a glorious 150-mile loop dotted with interesting road-side icons, like a statue of Chief Wenonga. It was built in 1979 and stands 23-feet tall.
There's a festival in Wenonga's name next weekend and locals say it's a blast.

Right when Mike and Natalie rolled into town, they knew they had to check out Ben's Bait Shop.
The owner, Bennet, bought the place a few years ago from his grandpa, Ben. Bennet says people are often surprised by all things you'll find there – and he's right!

The place many, many viewers told Mike and Natalie to visit is called Granny's Pantry.
It's a candy shop with all sorts of ice cream, waffle cones, salt-water taffy, fudge and gummies.
If you've got a sweet tooth, you've got to check it out.
