Cumberland is an easy two-hour drive from the Twin Cities metro. It's called the "Island City," because it is mostly surrounded by Beaver Dam Lake.

Unlike some small towns across the country, Cumberland is thriving. Just one look down its Main Street, which is lined with American flags and quaint shops, shows this to be true.

Frank and Ameila headed to the Cumberland Golf Club Friday, which is just a few minutes from Main Street. You can enjoy a "Sandarita" while overlooking the 18th hole.

In a couple weeks, Cumberland will hold its annual big celebration -- The Rutabaga Festival. The fest started way back in 1932. It was the height of the Great Depression, so some businessmen in the area decided to combat the mood in the country with a party.

Rutabagas grew here at the time, thus the name. Eighty-three-years later, this festival is a big deal: Music downtown, a parade, tractor pulls, a hot pepper eating contest -- there's something for everyone!

The Rutabaga Festival is always the weekend before Labor Day. This year that's Aug. 27 - 30.

Frank and Amelia had the chance Friday night to go fishing on Beaver Dam Lake in Cumberland. Their guide, Jeff Lane -- of Lane's Taxidermy and Guide Service in Comstock -- is a great guy and an excellent fisherman. He had them reeling 'em in almost instantly.

Lane is based in Comstock, but he will meet you just about anywhere. He regularly fishes Mille Lacs, and says the bass bite there is phenomenal right now.

One of their stops Friday was at the Lakeside Pizzeria, which is right next to Beaver Dam Lake in town. Owner Mike Capuzzi grew up going here. When he heard the longtime owners were selling, he bought the place. He commutes from Chicago every weekend to run it, along with his partners Jeff and Chris.

Amelia and Frank had great pizza, meatballs and sausage grinders. Folks here told them they're happy the pizza place is right next to the lake. And yes, they'll deliver to the dock!

After lunch, they headed back to Louie's Meat Market, where they chatted with Chad Hartman during his show on NewsRadio 830 WCCO.

There is so much to do in Cumberland if you are interested in getting out and enjoying the outdoors. And whether you want to buy or rent gear, Idlewild Outfitters is perfect. It is right on Main Street in Cumberland.

They took Amelia and Frank out Friday to try some paddleboard yoga. If you saw Thursday's log rolling segment, well, let's just say Frank had some more trouble on the water!
